Kiryu's History

Kiryu was a mecha designed to replace the older Mechagodzilla to defend against the resurgent kaiju threat on Earth.

Billionaire Daniel Malmon constructed a new Mechagodzilla based on anatomical data obtained from the real Godzilla in order to replace the U.S. military's previous Mechagodzilla. The new Mechagodzilla battled Godzilla and briefly held the upper hand. Mechagodzilla attempted to use its Absolute Zero Cannon on Godzilla, but Godzilla countered it with his atomic breath, creating a beam clash which Mechagodzilla lost. With the mech damaged and immobile, Godzilla left.

Mechagodzilla was later stolen by Harrison, Boxer's estranged son and a member of his "Kaiju Kill Crew," and sent to Monster Island to free the Earth monsters being contained there so that they could battle the recently arrived space monsters. Kumonga hitched a ride on Mechagodzilla's back while Boxer and Hikari joined Harrison in the cockpit, and the group headed to New York City to take on Monster X. Monster X easily beat Mechagodzilla and Kumonga before SpaceGodzilla and Godzilla both arrived. During the ensuing battle, Mechagodzilla was knocked into the Hudson River. As the machine began to flood and sink, Boxer managed to get the Absolute Zero Cannon operational. Using a well-timed shot, Mechagodzilla froze SpaceGodzilla solid, leaving him helpless against Godzilla's atomic breath.

Following the battle in New York City, the newly-formed Counter-Kaiju Reaction Forces assumed command of Mechagodzilla and repaired and modified it. The upgraded Mechagodzilla first saw action when it was sent to Paris to subdue Baragon. Baragon used his magma heat ray against Mechagodzilla and fought fiercely, but the mech was able to overcome and capture Baragon, then transport him to the new Monster Islands.

Mechagodzilla was next sent along with a naval fleet to assault the Devonians' underwater capital. However, Destoroyah attacked the fleet and killed Mechagodzilla's pilot. Jet Jaguar realized that he was no match for Destoroyah, and decided to shrink to human size and pilot Mechagodzilla. Jet Jaguar used Mechagodzilla's Absolute Zero Cannon to freeze Destoroyah, killing him in one hit.

Years later, Mechagodzilla was sent by CKR to Antarctica to recover the supposedly dead body of Anguirus following his battle with a mass-produced Mechagodzilla developed by the Russian industrialist Dyachenko. When it was discovered that Anguirus was still alive, Mechagodzilla restrained him and was ordered to fly Anguirus to a secret facility in Siberia. On the way there, Mechagodzilla and the jets escorting it were attacked by a group of Dyachenko's Mechagodzillas. CKR's Mechagodzilla was shot down over Siberia, while Anguirus escaped its grip to go join Godzilla in battle against Mecha-King Ghidorah and more Mechagodzillas, who were actually controlled by the disguised Cryog aliens.

CKR repaired Mechagodzilla once again and deployed it alongside MOGUERA to back up Godzilla against a massive onslaught of Trilopods. The mecha managed to freeze a Baragon-Trilopod, before getting pounced on and destroyed by the Varan- and Sanda-Trilopods. Even though both of CKR's mechs were destroyed, Earth's monsters would later escape the Trilopods' hive and join Godzilla in a massive final counterattack.
