Mechagodzilla's History

MechaGodzilla was the first mecha countermeasure constructed to fight the new kaiju threat.

Mechagodzilla was constructed in Detroit as part of a joint Japanese and American military project to combat the giant monster threat. Mechagodzilla nearly defeated Godzilla, but damage sustained to its control systems caused it to run wild and go on a destructive rampage. Eventually, the massive machine broke down in the wilderness and was discovered by Steven Woods. Woods took command of Mechagodzilla manually and brought it to Washington D.C., where Godzilla was doing battle with King Ghidorah. Mechagodzilla used its shock anchor harpoons to shock both monsters into submission, and Woods was praised as a hero for his actions.

By the events of Gangsters and Goliaths, Mechagodzilla was an old robot that had since been replaced by newer models. When Godzilla and several other giant monsters attacked Tokyo, Detective Makato Sato convinced his son, a member of G-Force, to pilot the outdated Mechagodzilla into battle against Godzilla. Mechagodzilla did not defeat Godzilla, but was able to distract the creature long enough to save innocent lives and buy Sato time to save the Elias and confront Takahashi.

MechaGodzilla would appear for the last time when a rookie crew piloting the mecha was sent to China in pursuit of Godzilla. When they arrived, they found the entire area totally devastated and enveloped in toxic smog. Mechagodzilla was then attacked by the source of the destruction, the Smog Monster Hedorah. Mechagodzilla attempted to attack Hedorah, but all of its attacks were harmlessly absorbed by Hedorah's malleable body. Suddenly, Godzilla himself arrived and was attacked by Hedorah. Just before Hedorah could seriously harm Godzilla, Mechagodzilla re-entered the battle, forcing the King of the Monsters and his mechanical double to become unlikely allies against the Smog Monster. After a messy and difficult battle, Godzilla and Mechagodzilla defeated Hedorah and went their separate ways, deciding to resume their conflict another time.
