Mary Jane Watson-Parker and her husband, Peter Parker, had a son and named him Ben after Peter's uncle. During the early years of Ben's life, New York City was ravaged by the villainous Cadaverous and his minions. MJ tried to help Peter when Cadaverous was destroying the city, but Cadaverous impaled her and threw her off a bridge instead. Spider-Man saved her from falling, but she was already dead and was given a funeral. When Ben's powers started to manifest themselves he donned his father's suit and became Spider-Man. This drew the attention of Cadaverous who needed Richard Parker's blood or a close hereditary match in Peter or Ben's blood to formulate "The Key" to properly resurrect his old, dead mentor Minka Tross. read more
