Buzz's History
Buzz was the bassist for the band the Home Sick Pilots and later the host for the spirit known as Old Man James on several occasions.
Living in Santo Manos, Buzz had founded a band alongside his friends and fellow orphans Ami and Rip. After attending a show for their rival band, the Nuclear Bastards, that was broken up by the cops, the group fled to the pier and discussed how to one-up the competition with Ami suggesting they go to the haunted Old James House to put on a performance. This idea was put on hold when the Nuclear Bastards arrived and a brief confrontation occurred, after which Ami ran off on her own due to a disagreement.
When she didn't return the next morning, Buzz and Rip went to the Old James House to find her only to run into the Nuclear Bastards again. One of the Bastards, Robbie, then attempted to rob Rip and then proceeded to stab him. This act seemed to awaken the malice of the house and Robbie was impaled and then decapitated by the house. Buzz and Rip managed to escape, but the rest of the Nuclear Bastards were presumed dead after the room they were in seemed to crush them until there was nothing left but a torrent of blood. The survivors then tried to get assistance from the police, but Rip was arrested instead and Buzz ran home.
Buzz would continue to return to the James House in a futile attempt to find Ami, although he would discover the vessels for the ghosts she was retrieving each time she came back. On one of his trips into the house, Ami's attempt to retrieve the clock had run into trouble as TFT had ambushed her. Fearing for Ami's life, Old Man James got Buzz to agree to become his host and the two bonded for the upcoming rescue mission.
Utilizing the ghost's connection to Ami and his newfound supernatural strength, Buzz quickly leaped across the city to aid his friend. When he arrived at the Dead End Video, he engaged the hostile entity and was seemingly evenly matched with the crazed spirit. TFT then fled into the video store and absorbed more cassettes and quickly became unmanageable. Without a clear avenue for victory, Buzz grabbed Ami and fled at full speed and escaped from The Cassette for the time being.
After briefly reconnecting with Ami, the trio were ambushed by the forces of System Disrupt. Seeing no chance for all three to escape, Old Man James abandoned Buzz and whisked Ami back to the house through a portal. Without anyway to protect himself, Buzz was captured and held prisoner by the government funded group. He would be reunited with Rip and Meg after the pair were also apprehended by the group.
When General Rzor explained his group's mission to stop and capture restless spirits, Meg immediately gave up the location of the Old James House. When System Disrupt and TFT arrived, they found that the House was now animated with the former fleeing in their van while the latter attempted to engage the haunted house. During the ensuing mayhem from the clash between TFT and the House, System Disrupt's van was flipped upside down. After Ami and the House had disarmed TFT, Ami approached the van and attempted to rescue her friends. Only Buzz chose to go with her and was in the House when it went into the ocean with the berserk TFT.
Buzz did not die there however, and had instead been riding the rails with Ami for three months in an attempt to keep a low profile after Ami had used her powers to pull them out of the depths. Despite their best efforts, the House continued to pursue them from beneath the waves while subtly manipulating their movements so they could never truly leave sight of the shore line. While the pair were tending to a wound Buzz had gotten, Old Man James appeared to them and attempted to abduct Ami once again. Buzz was able to dissuade the apparition from that course of action and he retreated back to his home.
Their respite was short lived, as Li'l Marky decided he would bring the pair back himself. Ami and Buzz were then confronted by Marky's flesh golem, which he had built out of Neo-Nazis that had attempted to steal his vessel, in a bar. Although she initially attempted to convince the juvenile spirt to let the abomination fall apart, Ami was forced to use what little remained of her power to break Marky's control over the corpses. Unfortunately, she did not do this fast enough and the animate mass of corpses was reported on the news, drawing the attention of a frenzied Meg piloting the Nuclear Bastard.
Seeing the report of the crazed Mech hurtling straight for her position, Ami was left with little choice but to return to the House to both protect herself and the area around her. Buzz objected to this idea, but was overruled as Rip arrived from his adventure with the last member of System Disrupt, Trish. The reunion of the Home Sick Pilots didn't last long, as Meg and the Mecha was hot on Rip's trail. At the beginning of the engagement, it looked as though the House and the Nuclear Bastard were evenly matched, although Ami sensed they would lose the upper hand eventually. Desperate to turn the situation around, Old Man James repossessed Buzz and took Rip to go retrieve the final missing ghost.
After an indeterminate amount of time leaping through the countryside, the group located the abandoned facility in St. Pio where the final ghost was located. The first had to locate the sole remaining guard located somewhere within the labyrinthine catacombs beneath the facility. With the seemingly endless nature of the tunnels and how they were being manipulated by the final ghost, Buzz and Rip were eventually separated.
Frustrated by the seeming futility of the search, Buzz began to interrogate Old James for information on the facility as Buzz had intuited that Old James had been held there too. Old James then sent his memories of the facility directly into Buzz's mind which revealed the horrors of the facility and how it had warped the final ghost in the experiments carried out in 1941. It was also revealed how James had escaped by manipulating the luck of the main scientist before killing him in a plane crash.
Now knowing some of what Old James knew, Buzz continued the search. Soon enough, Old James sensed the ghost's release from her containment cell and was able to guide Buzz right to her. He arrived shortly after the newly possessed Rip had killed General Rzor and attempted to talk Rip into coming with him, but a brief battle broke out. It was revealed her that the final ghost was Juliette, Old James's daughter, who now turned all of her fury onto her father and his host. Unable to contend with her raw power, Buzz was subdued and bound in ghostly chains.
Buzz was then dragged through one thousand miles of Juliette's tunnels as she went to destroy her father's house with them arriving right as Meg was about to kill Ami. Confused by the new arrivals, Meg and Ami stopped fighting. Juliette then attempted to use her powers to destroy the house and the vessels for the other ghosts, but then Old James retreated from Buzz and used his power over the other ghosts to capture Juliette and forcibly return her home. Now at full power, the House consumed the Nuclear Bastard and trapped the Home Sick Pilots within its walls. Content that his family was finally reunited, Old James marched back to Santo Manos and returned the House to its foundations.
Trapped inside the haunted house, Buzz and the others desperately searched within the tunnels beneath the House for Meg. Once they finally found her, Ami revealed their plan to detonate the still intact reactor of the Nuclear Bastard to destroy the House and dissipate all of the Ghosts, including themselves as they had all died months ago due to blood loss and starvation. Meg activated the bomb only for Old James to attempt to contain the detonation. He failed, as the six other ghosts of the house rebelled against him and aided in powering the final detonation. Buzz's spirit was finally dispersed as the reactor detonated and allowing her to rest. The explosion, in addition to destroying the house, also released an untold number of ghosts into America and started a new age for the country as those with unfinished business stayed around.
