SCP-3493 is a series of growing hypermassive black holes spread across a number of universes, one in each universe. All of them share a special antimemetic ability. For each black hole in the universes they reside in, any information about it that is created in the universe that it resides in immediately becomes uninterpretable by the local inhabitants of that very universe. The only way to counter the antimeme is to send the information to another universe, where it can be properly interpreted by the inhabitants there.

Another property of the black holes is that any sentient beings in their relative vicinities will slowly experience a form of severe dementia where they will lose any ability that requires the processing of any kind of information. This includes creating and retaining memories, performing simple tasks, and bodily functions.

The black holes are theorized to be anchors created by a being called "the Maw" that resides outside the multiverse to reel in multiple universes into its vast darkness. The only counter to this is to destroy the black holes themselves.
