Spider-Man's History
Peter Parker was a student at Midtown High School. He was a friend of
Harry Osborn and tried to tutor him as well. He was also bullied from time to time by
Flash Thompson. He had a crush on
Mary Jane Watson, who was a friend, and on-again-off-again girlfriend, of
Harry's. Getting acquainted with one another through their mutual friendship with
Harry, Peter began to tutor
Mary Jane and the two studied together often. They developed a close friendship and Peter's crush on
Mary Jane grew. However,
Mary Jane had developed a crush on Peter's alter ego, Spider-Man, who had saved her from supervillain attacks a couple of times.
Mary Jane would look for Spider-Man throughout the city, hoping to find him, talk to him, and ask him out. When she finally got her chance, Spider-Man turned her down.
Mary Jane later saw Spider-Man fighting crime with
Firestar and got jealous, believing he had chosen the super-powered redhead who could fly over her. However, not long after, Spider-Man showed up outside
Mary Jane's bedroom window to ask her on a date. The newt day, as Peter, he also asked her out hoping that she would choose him over his Spider-Man persona. When she did not, Peter was disappointed but took her on their date as Spider-Man. On the date with Spider-Man,
Mary Jane realized she had feelings for Peter. But when she found Peter the next day to tell him how she felt, she found him showing the new transfer student,
Gwen Stacy, around and they were hitting it off. Peter and
Gwen began dating but
Gwen started questioning Peter's sudden disappearances, tardiness, and poor excuses. When she had had enough and threatened to end it with Peter if he wasn't honest with her, he told her that he was Spider-Man.
Gwen understood, kept his secret, and the two continued dating.
Mary Jane was especially hurt when she heard that Peter had a big secret that he didn't feel he could tell her but shared it with
Gwen. Still,
Gwen eventually broke things off with Peter when she realized that he had feelings for
Mary Jane. At that same time,
Mary Jane reconciled with
Harry and the two of them began dating once more. So, in the meantime, Spider-Man developed a brief flirtation with
Firestar. All the while, Spider-Man also continued to visit with
Mary Jane and she would tell him that she liked a boy at school but that it never seemed to work out. While she was speaking of Peter, Spider-Man assumed she meant
Harry instead of him. After a short time, both their relationships ended again. Peter then came to visit
Mary Jane and mentioned that he missed her and they renewed their friendship.
