Subject-892

The Dead Astronaut

Subject-892's History

File ID: #892

Access Level: 5

Classification: Top Secret

Entity Name: Subject-892 (AKA: The Dead Astronaut)

Brief:

Subject-892, colloquially known as "The Dead Astronaut", is an anomaly of unknown origin. The first recorded encounter with Subject-892 occurred in 2022 when the Voyager 3 probe detected an unexpected extraterrestrial object in the Kuiper Belt. Subsequent remote scans revealed a space suit of Apollo-era design, seemingly inhabited by a deceased astronaut - hence the designation.

Physical Description:

Subject-892 appears as an astronaut in a spacesuit reminiscent of those utilized during NASA's Apollo missions. The helmet's visor is remarkably pristine, allowing clear view of the suit's interior. Visible inside is a skeletal figure, remarkably preserved. The suit, despite enduring the severe conditions of space for an extended period, shows a remarkable resistance to damage and decay.

Behavior and Abilities:

Subject-892 exhibits a host of anomalous properties. It appears to move through space independently of any known physical laws, changing direction and speed without apparent propellant force.

The most disturbing characteristic is its ability to spontaneously appear and disappear without trace. It has been observed appearing within the solar system, vanishing, and reappearing in entirely different locations, often light-years away. It suggests that Subject-892 possesses the ability to manipulate space-time or traverse dimensions.

Interaction Protocol:

Any spacecraft encountering Subject-892 are to maintain a safe distance and avoid direct contact. Crews should not attempt to open or otherwise interact with the suit. All encounters are to be reported immediately to Control. Interstellar missions are provided with specific protocols should they encounter Subject-892.

History and Containment Efforts:

Subject-892 was first detected by the Voyager 3 probe in 2022. Since its discovery, there have been twelve recorded encounters with the entity. Attempts to communicate have proven unsuccessful.

Containment of Subject-892 has thus far been impossible due to its unpredictable movement and apparent teleportation ability. A dedicated task force, Codename: "Starwatchers," has been established to track and monitor Subject-892. Efforts to predict its movements and further understand its nature are ongoing.

Notable Incidents:

Incident 892-06: Subject-892 appeared within the immediate vicinity of the International Space Station (ISS). The crew reported that the station's systems began malfunctioning, and an ethereal hum was heard throughout the ISS. Subject-892 vanished after 2 hours, with systems returning to normal shortly after.

Incident 892-09: During the Perseus Mission to Proxima Centauri b, Subject-892 was detected within 1,000 kilometers of the spacecraft. Despite being light-years away from the last known position, it appeared unaffected by the immense distance.

Additional Notes:

While it is clear that Subject-892 houses a skeletal figure, the true nature of the entity remains an enigma. Whether the suit is an instrument of the entity or the entity itself is yet unknown. The question of how and why this astronaut figure came to be trapped in eternal drift also remains unanswered. Further study is needed to unravel the mystery of Subject-892, making it one of the most intriguing phenomena within our known universe.
