Teke Teke

History

Teke Teke is an onryō (vengeful ghost) from Japanese folklore that appears in many urban legends. The most common story says Teke Teke was a woman or schoolgirl who fell or jumped onto railway tracks and was cut in half by a passing train. With no lower body, she crawls incredibly fast on her hands, making a "teke teke" scraping sound, which is the origin of her name. She hunts alone at night, especially near train stations and roads. If she catches anyone, she will slice them in half at the waist to mimic her own disfigurement, sometimes using a sickle. There are many local variations of the legend with different details, making the original story unclear. Some say she was in an accident, others suicide. read more
