The White Lotus Angel

Ardas

The White Lotus Angel's History

The mortals tell of a beautiful angel who watches over them from the highest planes of the heavens. His form is said to be carved of the purest alabaster, with eyes like glittering gems and hair flowing in white-gold streams. Two great wings sprout from his back, each feather velvety soft as new-fallen snow.

This angel goes by the name Ardas, which means "steadfast compassion." It is said he was sculpted by the hands of the gods themselves as a symbol of hope and mercy. While his pantheon of celestial siblings wield thunderbolts or flaming swords, Ardas bears only a glowing staff topped with an open lotus bloom, ever radiating a soft light.

When humankind was but a fledgling species stumbling across a savage earth, it is whispered that Ardas took pity on their plight. Under cover of nightfall he would descend from the celestial realm, his wings spreading wide to break his fall as snowflakes drift earthward. Wherever his dainty feet trod, barren soils became fertile and life sprang forth.

In this way, over countless ages, did Ardas sow the seeds of civilization. Oases and groves of fruit trees blossomed in his gliding wake, giving sustenance and shelter to the early tribes. His lotus light guided lost wayfarers to safe haven, and healed wounds with but a gentle touch. Through it all he asked nothing but that the people cherish each other and the gifts of the land.

To this day, mortals revere Ardas as the Angel of Mercy, leaving offerings at sacred groves of white lotus in hope of benefiting from his blessing. And some say on the coldest nights, you may yet glimpse him passing overhead, wings aglow like a guiding star as he keeps his eternal watch over the world.
