Viego's History

Viego was born the only son of Alvaro the Lion's third wife, Lianor. Viego was never considered a serious contender to take the throne, as his older brother, Nivor, was considered the far superior candidate. As Viego grew, he knew little affection from his father (although all of his physical needs were accounted for) and obtained a desperate need for affection. After Nivor was killed in battle, Alvaro attempted to make up for lost time by training his now only son. Alvaro's death followed relatively quickly, though, and Viego was left to fend for himself until he was tasked with undergoing the ceremony to become the King, which involved the sword Sanctity deeming him worthy or not. Fortunately for Viego, Sanctity would find him suitable and Veigo would take the throne as the last king of Camavor. He would soon after marry a foreign woman and the love of his life, Isolde.

Eighteen months after his coronation, Viego lead his first military campaign against a neighboring state, which had been discovered to have been hiding Mikhael's Crucible. The battle was a massive success, with the opposing force collapsing after Ledros killed their king in combat. Bucking the trend of sacking the city due to Isolde's insistence, Viego instead decided to host a feast within the city's walls for the Camavoran nobles and the commanders of the Host. It was during this feast that a pair of assassins attempted to kill the king, although their attempt was thwarted by Kalista, his niece. Although Viego was not killed, Isolde was struck by one of the poisoned blades which drove Viego into a murderous frenzy. He killed the last assassin in this rage, holding every member of the audience in place with his telekinesis, not realizing he had killed the only person that knew what the poison was.

Initially Viego was able to keep Isolde in stable condition using the newly gained Crucible, this was soon discovered to not be a permanent solution. He sent out calls across the continent for anyone that thought they could help, but every failed attempt drove him further and further into madness. In one of his manic episodes, Viego managed to discern the location of the legendary Blessed Isles and decided to dispatch Kalista, one of the last people who held his trust, to seek out the mages that lived there for a cure. In the weeks and months that followed, Isolde's condition continued to deteriorate and Veigo's mental state continued to fracture. His spending spun out of control and soon Camavor neared bankruptcy.

On Kalista's return, Isolde had been dead for several weeks and Viego had become completely unhinged. When his niece refused to initially give him the location of the Isles, Viego had her imprisoned. This ended after Knight Commander Hecarim convinced Kalista (his betrothed) to escort Viego to the Isles so that he could hear directly that there was no way to save Isolde. Viego put together an expedition that consisted of himself, Kalista, Ledros, Necrit, Hecarim and a small honor guard of Host soldiers to venture to the Isles.

Upon their arrival to the Isles, the elders of Helia were livid that the mists had not managed to turn back the Camavoran expedition, but Viego was able to convince them that they were there only to save his (in his mind) dying wife. After a brief discussion, the elders sent forth their best healers who confirmed for Viego that Isolde had indeed been dead for some time. Brother Yorick, a member of the Monks of Dusk, even managed to seemingly put Viego's mind at ease and comforted him in his grief.

This was not the end, as Warden Erlok Grael managed to get aboard the ship and told Viego of the hidden waters beneath the city that could revive the dead. Enraged by what he viewed as trickery, Viego initiated an assault upon Helia and put forth the call for the Iron Order's forces to come join him. With Grael leading the way, Viego cut a swath of devastation through every force that was thrown against him, even managing to destroy the magically reinforced door of the main tower itself. As he descended further and further into the Vaults, the carnage grew worse and worse as every living being not aiding him was cut down in turn.

Upon finally killing the last elders, Viego entered into the vault that contained the Waters of Life. Viego delicately placed the corpse of his beloved within the waters and waited for something to happen. Eventually, the wraith of Isolde would emerge, enraged by her resurrection. In her fury, she grabbed Sanctity and skewered Viego through the chest. Viego was consequently put into a state of endlessly dying and being healed as the blade and the waters counteracted each other infinitely. The corresponding cascade eventually overwhelmed the World Rune contained within the pool and a massive explosion of living death (known as the Ruination) erupted from Viego's form and engulfed the Blessed Isles, which would henceforth be known as the Shadow Isles. Viego, was not dead, however, and his soul was trapped within his blade, waiting for the day a living being of sufficient will would grasp the hilt anew.
